Antrim Fleadh Report - Dunloy 2010

28 May 2010
Portglenone CCE were well represented at the Co Antrim Fleadh held in Dunloy recently. At the Fleadh's Opening concert on the Friday night, the Portglenone CCE juniors teamed up with young musicians from other CCE Branches across the County. They numbered over one hundred on the stage all playing a fine selection tunes and songs in what was a fine spectacle for those in the audience.

At the competitions on the Saturday the Portglenone CCE Junior Traditional Irish Musicians done their Branch proud. Unfortunately the Under 12 and 12-15 Grupai Cheoils did not qualify for the Ulster Fleadh but they were absolutely fantastic and played their respective arrangements perfectly. Well done!!

On Sunday at the Fleadh's closing ceremony in the Parish Hall, the Portglenone Juniors were the complete package with music, song and dancing. Well done to all!

Many thanks to the parents who supported and transported the musicians to rehearsals in 'The Wild Duck' and to and from the Fleadh.

A very special thanks goes to the tutors and mentors who helped prepare the junior groups over the last few months: Mary McDonnell, Harry O'Neill, Kieran Convery, Robert Close and also to Branch Chairman, Eamon Graham.

Keep up the good work and we'll see you all again on the 'Gig Rig' at the Ulster Fleadh in Castlewellan, Co. Down in July.
