Christmas/New Year Session 2000

29 December 2000
At our recent presentation night in the Wild Duck Inn in Portglenone, we had a splendid evening of music and song. Many young musicians attended despite the extreme winter conditions endured to get there. Great craic was had by all. The young musicians started the session rolling at about 8.30pm and played until 10.00pm. At this point a fine supper was served and after the tea the presentations were made. The main presentation was to the under-18 Grupai Cheoil Champions who won the title back in August at Enniscorthy.

There were also a few other presentations to the junior wing of the branch. The photograph shows some of the very young musicians who obtained recognition for their participation at the County Fleadh back in May 2000. These young pupils of Portglenone CCE were given the certificate to reward them for competing at such a high level and to encourage them to continue to practice and learn their instruments well.

When all the presentations were made the senior musicians took over and entertained the crowd with a considerable amount of reels, jigs and many old favourites as well as the odd new tune thrown in for good measure.
