Inaugural Paul Phillips Memorial Bodhrán Workshop
Saturday 16th June 2012
Paul Phillips (1959–2007) was one of Ireland’s most popular and respected bodhrán players and teachers. He taught and toured widely across Europe, the United States and even as far afield as Timbuktu in the Sahara in 2006, bringing the drum to ever wider audiences.

He was an experienced teacher and Comhaltas adjudicator and taught at many of the main summer schools in Ireland. Paul was a member of Newcastle CCÉ and he died suddenly on 16 September 2007.
In his memory, Newcastle CCÉ are hosting a bodhrán workshop on Saturday 16th June in The Lodge, Castlewellan.

Classes on the day will be taken by All Ireland Champions including Junior Davey, Sean O’Neill and Niall McCrickard.
Junior played alongside Paul on many occasions and Sean and Niall were taught by both champions!
