Chontae Aontroim Fleadh 2022

At last, Irish music is back! Portglenone CCE is to host Ulster’s first fleadh at the Chontae Aontroim 2022 Fleadh Cheoil after a two-year postponement.

As vaccinations kick in worldwide and restrictions start to ease, Portglenone CCE readies itself to host the 2022 County Antrim Fleadh Cheoil.

The pandemic flattened everyone and everything and the County Antrim Fleadh that was to be held in Portglenone in May 2020 was cancelled and never got off the ground in 2021 either. As they say, hope springs eternal and as the vaccinations kick in worldwide and restrictions start to ease, it is time for some optimistic plans that we will once again be able to gather socially among one another and carry on our most valued traditions of Irish music, song and dance in County Antrim and Ulster.

And for Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann, which has encountered numerous challenges in its pivotal role as Ireland’s foremost cultural movement preserving and promoting traditional Irish music, song, and dance for over 70 years, it was time to send a signal that we aim to get back on track with that mission with social gathering in person.

And so, Ulster’s first Fleadh in 2022 will be hosted by the Portglenone CCE Branch in County Antrim from 20th – 24th April, after a break of over 30 months due the onset of the Covid-19 Pandemic which hit our shores in March 2020.

This year marks the 71st Anniversary of Comhaltas in Ireland and to mark this occasion and to celebrate getting back to some form of normality by playing tunes, singing, and dancing together, Portglenone CCE are hosting a range of different events over the week of Fleadh Cheoil Chontae Aontroim 2022 which seems to have attracted the attention of many people from across Ulster and beyond to be involved in first Fleadh in Ulster in 2022, where we have many places for all to show off their talents across the village.
